The talk will touch on the Indian legal regime from the perspective of a foreign investor and focus on, amongst other things: Foreign direct investment: key controls and restrictions. Public M&A issues: unravelling the takeover norms.Using debt to invest in India - External commercial borrowings:  an introduction.

Anupama was formerly a Principal Associate and Prashanth, a Partner, at Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co. Synopsis: What are the pitfalls when terminating an employment contract? How should an employer manage its liabilities when firing an employee? What recourse is available to the employer in respect of breaches by errant employees? Rodyk & Davidson’s litigation and arbitration partner Derek Kang considers these important questions when dismissing an employee. 
Speaker's Profile: A former Deputy Public Prosecutor, Derek is an experienced litigator with particular expertise in criminal prosecutions and defence work, as well as disputes between shareholders and directors, legislative and contractual advice and cases of fraud. Derek Kang is a partner in Rodyk & Davidson LLP's Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group.

Consultation on Continuing Legal Education

The Singapore Academy of Law Interim Committee on the Institute of Legal Education is seeking feedback on improvements that can be made to Part A of the Singapore Bar Examinations (formerly the Diploma in Singapore Law), Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations (formerly the Practical Law Course).

In relation to the proposal to implement mandatory Continuing Legal Education for lawyers practising in Singapore and the Corporate Practice Examination which would qualify foreign lawyers to practise prescribed areas of Singapore law it seeks suggestions as to how these schemes may be optimally implemented.

The deadline for submitting your views to the SAL is Sunday 28th February 2010.
