Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 3: Patrick Tay on in-house counsels and paralegals
In-house counsels in Singapore form a significant and growing part of Singapore’s legal fraternity. The number of in-house counsels has outstripped the number of lawyers in practice to date. This presents a great opportunity for Singapore in-house legal counsels to differentiate themselves in their skills as well as how they help businesses move confidently in Singapore and around the globe. MP Patrick Tay shared these observations in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 4). He asked the Ministry of Law to provide an update of their current support and longer-term plans to further uplift the career, health and progression of in-house counsels in Singapore. He also wanted to know how the ministry can further help to uplift and enhance the career health and progression of paralegals and para-professionals in Singapore.
