IMDA Launches AIxLegal Programmes to Build AI-Ready Legal Talent Pipeline in Singapore

Singapore's legal sector gains a structured pathway to AI adoption as IMDA, SAL and SCCA roll out sector-specific training to prepare lawyers and in-house counsel for AI-augmented work.
 

Singapore – The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), together with the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) and the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association (SCCA), has launched two AI fluency programmes aimed at building a pipeline of AI-capable legal talent in Singapore over the next three years.

IMDA rolled out AIxLegal by SAL and AIxLegal by SCCA under the National AI Impact Programme (NAIIP), building on IMDA’s earlier work with the Ministry of Law, SAL and SCCA to enable AI fluency across the legal profession.

The programmes will equip lawyers and in-house counsel with practical AI capabilities to apply the technology confidently and responsibly in their daily work.

Minister for Digital Development and Information, Mrs Josephine Teo, announced the launch at the Singapore Computer Society (SCS) Tech3 Forum 2026.

AIxLegal comprises two complementary tracks tailored to different segments of the legal workforce. AIxLegal by SAL supports lawyers in practice, equipping them with the skills to use AI tools across common workflows such as research, drafting and case analysis.

They can deliver client-facing work more efficiently. AIxLegal by SCCA targets in-house legal and allied professionals, focusing on the use of AI in corporate legal workflows such as contract management, document management and legal research.

Both programmes combine structured training with hands-on learning in legal practice workflows, and learners will have access to dedicated learning communities, practitioner-led sharing sessions and peer learning opportunities.

AIxLegal follows the earlier launch of AIxAccountancy by IMDA and the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, making it the third occupation-specific AI fluency programme rolled out under the NAIIP to help professionals apply AI effectively in their respective fields.

Increasingly, lawyers are looking to move beyond general purpose AI tools and use legal AI tools more effectively in their work. Our priority is to equip lawyers with the skills and confidence to use legal AI tools well, understand their limitations and risks, and exercise the professional judgment needed to provide sound counsel while upholding high ethical standards. To achieve this, SAL has developed the AIxLegal by SAL programme, which gives lawyers hands-on experience applying legal AI tools across research, general disputes and corporate practice.”

The launch of AIxLegal coincides with IMDA’s expansion of its TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) initiative, which will offer almost 2,000 job and training opportunities with more than 20 companies, including Accenture, Microsoft, NCS and NTUC LearningHub, to support fresh graduates and mid-career professionals moving into tech roles.

IMDA said the expansion of occupation-specific AI fluency programmes and continued investment in company-led training reflect its commitment to building an AI-ready workforce, and that it will keep working with professional bodies, employers and training partners to widen AI training access across both tech and non-tech sectors.
