SCCA Hosts First Overseas In-House Counsel Event in Tokyo

Representatives of the SCCA, Epiq, JICN, JILA and Japanese corporates at the Singapore association’s inaugural overseas event in Tokyo

The Singapore Corporate Counsel Association (SCCA) and Epiq held their inaugural overseas event in Tokyo, with support from the Japan In-house Counsel Network (JICN) and Japan In-House Lawyers Association (JILA), bringing together the country’s in-house legal community.

“This marks an important step for the SCCA, but more importantly, the beginning of deeper relationships and continued exchange with our colleagues in Japan and across the region,” said Daniel Choo, SCCA president.
 

Jointly organised by SCCA and Epiq, the event was held under SCCA’s Regional Connect programme, which aims to strengthen connections and knowledge exchange among in-house counsel communities across the Asia-Pacific region. The Tokyo gathering included in-house counsel and professionals working in compliance, internal audit and risk management at Japanese corporations.

Held under the theme Preparing for Cross-Border Disputes and Internal Investigations Through AI and Technology, the programme examined the increasing complexity of cross-border disputes and investigations, as well as data management practices and the use of AI and technology in investigations.

Speakers included Daisuke Nakajima, director of legal solution at Epiq; Daryl Osuch, investment manager at Trailblaze Asset Management; Kosuke Hayakawa, senior director of legal solution at Epiq; Kyle Reykalin, a member of Legal Affairs Department at Daiichi Sankyo, and Toshiyuki Komaki, legal counsel at YKK.
