Global Trade Congress 2025 Convenes in Singapore to Advance Dialogue on Resilient and Sustainable Global Commerce
Singapore – September 2, 2025 — The inaugural Global Trade Congress 2025 concluded in Singapore on 28 August 2025, bringing together distinguished leaders from government, industry, academia, and the legal profession for two days of meaningful dialogue on the future of international trade. The Congress, co-organised by the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association (SCCA) and the Centre for Trade Excellence, was a key highlight of Singapore Convention Week 2025.
Guided by the theme “Thriving Through Turbulence: Resilience, Innovation & Collaboration in Global Trade”, the Congress convened over 700 regional registrants representing 79 industries, reflecting a broad and diverse cross-section of the global economy. Across the two-day programme, 75 speakers contributed their expertise through 25 sessions, offering delegates rich and multifaceted insights into the forces shaping global commerce.
A Platform for Global Exchange
The Congress underscored the importance of fostering dialogue that brings together diverse perspectives to address the complexities of today’s trade environment. Delegates recognised that while policies, treaties, and legal frameworks provide the scaffolding of trade, it is the trust between people and the strength of relationships that ensure commerce continues across borders.
The Role of In-House Counsel in Global Trade
A particular focus was placed on the evolving responsibilities of in-house counsel in navigating uncertainty. No longer confined to a purely interpretive role, legal professionals are increasingly called upon to anticipate regulatory change, guide strategic decision-making, and enable sustainable growth. The Congress highlighted this unique position at the intersection of law, business, and ethics — one that carries both responsibility and influence.
From Insight to Action
Beyond knowledge-sharing, the Congress was a forum for translating ideas into practical strategies. Delegates were encouraged to carry forward insights that can inform decision-making, strengthen institutional resilience, and enhance collaboration across borders.
Reflecting on the event, Daniel Choo, President of the SCCA noted:
“What stood out most from this Congress was not only the depth of expertise on display, but the spirit of collaboration in the room.
In a time when the global trade order is being rewritten, our ability to listen to one another, to exchange candid perspectives, and to build trust across industries and borders will matter as much as any policy or agreement.
This gathering has reminded us that the future of trade is not just about rules — it is about relationships”.
By building trusted networks, participants reinforced their collective commitment to fairness, integrity, and the rule of law as the enduring foundation of international commerce.
