IMDA Develops Legal Artificial Intelligence Fluency Programme to Help Businesses Navigate Diverse Markets
The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) is working with the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association to develop a specialised artificial intelligence fluency programme for in-house legal counsel, aimed at helping them navigate the diverse and complex markets across the Asia-Pacific region.
Speaking at an event organised by the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association, Law Minister Edwin Tong said the government also plans to invest in building a corporate in-house counsel community that spans Singapore and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
He noted that legal counsel who are capable of building cross-jurisdictional AI governance frameworks must not only appreciate and understand how different countries operate and how regulatory boundaries vary, but also go beyond risk management and legal support to actively drive strategic decision-making.
The Singapore Corporate Counsel Association has also signed cooperation agreements with in-house counsel bodies in South Korea and the Philippines, with the aim of strengthening collaboration and expanding professional development opportunities for corporate legal practitioners across the region.
